Certified Organic Bakery Opens in Local College Town
DAYTON, Ohio Nov. 15 – Daria Hawkins co-owner of BumBleBee Bakery (also known as 3 Bees) comes from an experienced background in New York. While working as executive pastry chef at the River Café, “I started doing a side business, with wedding cakes and petit fours,” Hawkins recalls. “One day my client asked me to make hundreds of petit fours. People started calling and ordering, and I was building up this clientele.” Recently she returned to the Dayton area, her hometown, in order to reconnect with her family. “I knew Davina from culinary school and we started emailing, then this whole business idea started,” says Hawkins.
Davina Peterangelo, 3 Bees other half, continued to live in Chicago after school and worked alongside chefs such as Rick Bayless, owner of Frontera Grill, and Gale Gand, owner of Tru. “When I got an email from Daria I was delighted to hear we were both planning to move to Dayton. We started looking for available retail spaces as a sort of joke, within a month we came up with a business plan and Bumble-Bee Bakery evolved.
Finding fresh produce and local food from the 2nd Street Market is just one of the ways they keep ingredients of the highest quality. While attending The Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago, Hawkins and Peterangelo learned the growing popularity of using organic products.
BumBleBee Bakery opens this Friday November 18 at 7 am. Regular store hours are 8-2pm Monday and 7-3pm Tuesday thru Sunday. “We hope to see you soon! Honey tastes sweeter with the Bees.”
I can’t remember if I posted this already. And for the record they will be pies. I worked on this in my Marketing class at Sinclair Community College. Graduated in Spring. Just had too much fun in Art classes. (Building 13)
